We have all had to make sacrifices during these difficult times and many of the challenges seem overwhelming. We miss the simple joys of a night out with friends, enjoying dinner and seeing a show. Well imagine how those performing on stage, working in the theater or behind the scenes must feel. It’s hard to look out at an empty theater and not feel empathy. The reality is, that without a performance, there is no revenue to support the staff or maintain the theater until the curtains can rise again. The road to recovery will be a long and costly drive until the day they open the doors to welcome everyone back to the theater.
That’s why the Broward Performing Arts Foundation created the Road to Recovery fund. However, the Road to recovery has challenges of its own. Like the generous challenge the Leo Goodwin Foundation issued. The Foundation announced that it will donate $25,000 to the Road to Recovery Fund if three other donors commit to $25,000 or more.
“I am happy to report that our first $25,000 donation toward the challenge has come from Broward Center President & CEO Kelley Shanley and his wife, Sarah.” Said Lisa Kitei, President, Broward Performing Arts Foundation. “We are proud to take part in helping the Road to Recovery campaign meet its goal,” said Elliot Borkson, Vice President and Trustee of The Leo Goodwin Foundation. “With the matches, we will ultimately provide $75,000 much-needed dollars toward their reopening,” he said.
